Can you sell expired diabetic supplies?

Expired can't be sold. Short-dated often can. Here's where the line sits, and what each side of it is worth. We buy nationwide by free mail-in.

No — expired diabetic supplies can't be sold, to us or any reputable buyer. But here's what sellers miss: short-dated supplies usually still can be, at a reduced rate. The line that matters isn't the expiration date itself — it's how many months of runway are left today.

The 3-month rule, and why it exists

Most products we buy need at least 3 months before expiration — enough time for inspection, resale, and actual use by the next person. Some categories need more: test strips move slowly, so 9+ months earns their best offers, and pump supplies sit closer to a five-month floor. When a box is inside the window, the answer isn't always no — it's a smaller number, quickly delivered, so you can decide.

How much time is left changes the offer

That slope is steep. The same sealed box can lose most of its value in a single quarter of sitting in a drawer — the full mechanics are in our pricing and inspection guide. If you've switched products or stopped using something, the most expensive thing you can do is wait.

Where to find the date

Look for "EXP" followed by a month and year, printed near the barcode or lot number on the box — on Dexcom and Libre boxes it's on the bottom or back panel, on pod and strip boxes usually the end flap. Send us a photo of that panel with your submission and your quote comes back faster and firmer.

What to do with truly expired supplies

Don't use them, and don't try to sell them — accuracy and adhesive reliability degrade past the date, which is exactly why no legitimate buyer touches them. Donation programs generally decline expired stock for the same reason. Sealed expired boxes can go in household trash in most areas; lancets and needles always go in a proper sharps container, never loose in a bag. If part of your lot is expired and part isn't, list everything anyway — we'll sort the sellable from the not and pay you for the difference.

Near Charlotte or anywhere in the US

Within about 30 minutes of Charlotte we pick up, usually same or next day; everyone else ships free with a prepaid shipping label and gets paid the day it arrives. The clock is the enemy here — get your number today.

Common questions

Can I sell diabetic supplies that expire next month?

Usually not — under 3 months of dating, reputable buyers can't resell them in time. Between 3 and 6 months, submit anyway: there's often still real value.

Why won't buyers take expired supplies?

Sensor accuracy, strip chemistry, and adhesives degrade past the date. Reselling them would put the next user at risk, so no legitimate buyer accepts them.

Do expired supplies have any value at all?

No resale value. Dispose of sealed boxes in household trash, and always use a sharps container for lancets and needles.

Part of my lot is expired and part isn't — what should I do?

Submit the whole list with dates. We'll quote the qualifying boxes and tell you plainly which ones don't make the cut.

Ready for a number?

Submit your supplies and we'll reply with a cash offer — usually within a couple of hours.
